Material Instances and Settings

3. Materials

When integrating a new tank model, the right materials are crucial for both the base and destruction states. Our materials are provided as instances, making it simple to adapt any tank's Albedo, Normal, and AORM textures to your specific needs. Emissive textures can also be adjusted if your model requires it.

Material Selection and Setup

Fig. 2: Example of setting up a material instance, illustrating the parameter adjustments for a specific camouflage pattern.

Each camouflage pattern requires it's own material instance. However, the normal and AORM texture layers remain similar between variations for optimization purposes.

For this reason, if you look at the texture folder, you will notice most camo variants only include a Base Colour texture. This is to avoid duplicate memories and inefficient use of resources.

Tip

The parameters mentioned are essential for creating both the standard and destroyed variations of your tank model materials.

3. Material Parameters Overview

For each tank model, material parameters control the visual aspects of your textures and effects. Here's an explanation of each parameter:

3.1 Textures

  • Albedo: Defines the base color texture of the model.
  • Normal: Adds surface detail and texture depth.
  • AORM: Combines ambient occlusion, roughness, and metallic properties.

3.2 Emissive Settings

  • Emissive?: Toggle for emissive properties.
  • Emissive: The texture for glowing effects.
  • Emissive Intensity: Controls the brightness of the emissive texture.

3.3 Albedo Settings

  • MultiplyAO?: Option to multiply ambient occlusion with the albedo texture.
  • Color Overlay: Adds a color tint over the albedo texture.
  • Overlay Intensity: Adjusts the strength of the color overlay.

3.4 Settings

  • Texture Tiling: Adjusts how many times the texture repeats over the model surface.
  • Roughness Intensity: Controls the sharpness of reflections.
  • Normal Intensity: Affects the impact of the normal map on lighting.
  • Spec: Influences the specular highlight intensity on the model.

3.5 Burnt Config

  • Enable Burnt?: Activates the burnt texture overlay for destroyed models.
  • Combine Masks?: Determines if multiple masks are combined for the burnt effect.
  • Invert Mask?: Inverts the mask used for the burnt texture effect.

3.6 Burnt Settings

Includes parameters for adjusting the appearance of burnt textures, such as tiling, intensity, and contrast for both the burnt texture and the custom masks applied.

3.7 Animated Track Parameters

Parameters here are modified via the blueprint to control the tank tracks' animation, such as direction and UV offset.

Note

The parameters mentioned are essential for creating both the standard and destroyed variations of your tank model materials.
